Jerry Uelsmann and Maggie Taylor: This is Not Photography
In the documentary, Jerry taught me that I should want the first response to my work to be an emotion or a genuine human feeling and not a question of how I achieved it. The technique is not the image; it supports it. The documentary emphasized that there is no right or wrong way to create something. Jerry uses the darkroom, and Maggie uses the computer. I liked what Jerry said about it not being a competitive sport. The idea of scanning images into the computer as Maggie did was interesting to me, and I would like to try that sometime. I like the way they each did unexpected things, but made the image convincing. It emphasized that I will typically have to try a variety of options before coming to an image that I am happy with. That process can provide new ideas though that will make the image better.

Project 2: Free writing – Apollo
Apollo seems like he would be considered a “deity” in this day and age as well. He is very “well-rounded,” which is valued in today’s culture. He is musically and athletically talented, and these are two HUGE things that societies (especially American) place great importance on.

Day 04: New to Me
I learned that there are lot more keystroke shortcuts that I could’ve been using since I’ve had a Mac 🙂
Illustrator is not as scary as I thought it would be.
I love computers!
